Telugu Desam Party (TDP) senior leader and former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has alleged that Rs 30 crore corruption has taken place in the modernisation works of Kanupuru main canal and Rs 60 crore corruption in irrigation works in Sarvepalli constituency. He also alleged that Rs 52 lakh corruption took place in the desilting works of the Viruvuru irrigation canal.

Chandramohan Reddy, along with a large number of TDP activists and leaders on Thursday visited the Kanupuru canal from Surayapalem in Podalakuru mandal. He saw the Kanupuru canal from zero point to Yerraballi bridge. Somireddy showed the areas where the YSRCP leaders swindled money without doing the work. He also alleged that irregularities took place in the MGNREGA works.

“We have asked the government to give details of money drawn by the contractors for carrying out works of Kanupuru canal. We were asked to pay Rs 2,000 challan to get the details. The officials feared giving the contract works and payment details of bills to the contractors,” he slammed.

Somireddy lashed out that Agriculture Minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy had claimed the works which were carried out during the TDP regime. Chandramohan Reddy claimed that the left irrigation project on the left canal of Kandaleru was constructed when he was the Agriculture minister.

“We will lay siege to the irrigation office if the details of project works and disbursement of bills are not given. The Collector should disclose the irrigation works carried out in the district and the bills paid for the same. We will approach the Lokayukta on the corruption that took place in the irrigation projects,” Somireddy said. TDP district general secretary Chejarla Venkateswara Reddy, Mastan Babu, Gali Ramakrishna Reddy, and Gummadi Raja Yadav were among those who accompanied Chandramohan Reddy.
