Rs 5,550 cr given to TS under NHM, says Kishan

Union Tourism Minister G. Kishan Reddy said the Modi government which took steps to provide medical services across the country, has taken extensive measures for that in Telangana.

Kishan said that during the last eight and a half years from 2014-15, Rs 5,550 crore were released to Telangana under the National Health Mission.

In Telangana, the NHM supports 225 primary health centres in towns, 10 community health centres, 636 primary health centres in villages and 85 community health centres providing essential medical services to people, he said.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Kishan said as on March 2022 the NHM supported 11,367 health workers (doctors, nurses etc) working in Telangana, 624 ambulances providing emergency services to the public and 32,854 ASHA workers.

Under NHM 1,075 Hospital Management Committees have been set up in Telangana, 314 primary health centres in rural areas providing 24×7 medical services, 156 FRUs (First Referral Units) serving 24×7 for various operations, and 10,426 Rural Health Hygiene and Nutrition Committees have also been formed.

Kishan said so far 175 Pradhanmantri Bharatiya Jana Aushadhi Paryojana Kendras across Telangana are providing generic medicines to people at low prices. 1,616 types of medicines and 250 surgical devices are available to the public at 50 to 80 per cent lesser prices in these centres.

He said that during the last three years Rs 146 crore was spent to implement the TB eradication programme in Telangana. For the eradication of fluorosis in 1,041 fluorosis-affected villages of Telangana Rs 800 crore was allotted under the National Water Quality Sub-Mission, he added.

Around Rs 300 crore was released to Telangana under the Emergency Covid-19 Response Package Phase-II during COVID-19. More than 7.7 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine worth over Rs 1,800 crore were distributed free, Kishan said.

The Union Minister said that in May 2021, Rs 150 crore was released after Telangana joined the Ayushman Bharat programme.
