Health and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav conducted a comprehensive review meeting at the Secretariat on Thursday to assess the performance of nine departments under the Health Ministry over the past 11 months.
As the coalition government nears its first anniversary, the review covered key aspects such as service delivery, staff vacancies, infrastructure, budget utilisation, and public perception of government healthcare.
The Minister directed officials to draft an action plan to address the significant number of vacancies in the medical and paramedical sectors. He proposed shifting the recruitment process from the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) to the AP Medical Services Recruitment Board (APMSRB) to accelerate appointments.
On the issue of corruption, the Minister stated that strict measures would be taken to eliminate the irregularities that plagued Dr NTR Health Services during the previous government’s tenure. He warned of stern action against hospitals engaging in fraudulent practices and the officials or middlemen involved.
Yadav said the coalition government had already cleared Rs 4,300 crore in pending dues and allocated substantial funds for the current financial year. A hybrid model will soon be introduced to implement the promised Rs 25 lakh health insurance coverage for all.
Criticising the previous administration for neglecting AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) services, the Minister said Rs 83 crore had been mobilised last year to revive the sector.
