The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has plans to augment coal production by 20 million tons by starting four new coal mines.
Currently, the SCCL produces 70 million tons through 18 open-cast mines and 23 underground coal mines. This year, the collieries is going to bring into production four more mines to produce an additional 20 million tons.
According to information, the SCCL is also making efforts to launch two projects this year besides the four coal mines.
At a review meeting held recently, the SCCL officials took the issue to the notice of the deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka.
A team of SCCL officials have been preparing to leave for Bhubaneshwar in the third week of January to hold negotiations with the Odisha government as the Naini coal block works have reached the final stages.
The land acquisition for the coal block, environmental clearance work and gathering of public opinion has been completed. Tenders have been awarded to parties for coal transportation and railway siding works. The SCCL targeted to excavate at least 6 million tons this year from the coal block whose capacity has been put at 10 million tons.

Further, the SCCL has drawn up plans to excavate at least 4.3 million tons of coal from Kothagudem VK OCP. Similarly, the SCCL is planning to excavate 3.5 million tons from Goleti OCP in Bellampalli area.
