Scorching heat ‘kills’ constable in state

The intensity of the sun is high in Telangana and in the city. Sunstroke reportedly claimed the life of a 42-year-old police constable on Sunday night. The constable, who belonged to the year 2000 batch, was attached to the Ramakrishnapur Police Station.

The deceased, Muthe Santosh, who hailed from Luxettipet in the district, fainted in his house on Sunday. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Luxettipet where doctors declared him brought dead.

The constable’s family said that he had returned home in the evening on Sunday and collapsed and died at night. They said that he died of sunstroke. It is not yet confirmed whether the constable died of sunstroke or not.

Damacheral recorded 45.3 degrees Celsius and Mahadevput 45.1 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Telangana witnessed a dry spell with temperatures soaring to a maximum of 42 degrees Celsius. A heat wave alert has been issued for the state by the India Meteorological Department — Hyderabad (IMD–H).

Everyone should stay indoors, drink lots of water and take other precautions. Nirmal, Mulug, Hyderabad, Adilabad, Suryapet, Peddapalli, Khammam, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Karimnagar and Jayashankar Bhupalally will witness temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

Khairtabad, Secunderabad and Serilingampally recorded a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius on Monday.

Hyderabad Meteorological Department officials warned that temperatures may rise above 43 degrees in the GHMC area. Temperatures are likely to go higher than the 46 degrees Celsius registered across the state on Monday.

The Met Department has announced an orange alert for 18 districts due to the sun. The IMD–Hyderabad has warned people to be alert in view of the Sun’s high intensity.
