Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that special measures should be taken for women’s empowerment by linking self-help groups with agriculture-based cottage industries, tourism and software sectors.
A meeting was held in the Deputy Chief Minister’s office on the formulation of budget estimates for Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Departments at the Secretariat on Wednesday.
Minister of State for Women, Child Welfare and Panchayat Raj, Dhanasari Anasuya (Sitakka) attended the meeting.
On the occasion, Bhatti Vikramarka said that 46,68,284 women members of 4,37,899 self-help groups in the State should be trained as entrepreneurs for economic development. He said that small-scale industries should be set up in rural and agricultural sector-based trade with loans provided to women’s groups. As there is good demand for organic crop products in the present market, SHGs should be directed towards organic farming. It has been stated that in many villages of the state, even though there were pipelines and water sources in the past, pipelines in the name of Bhagirath were closed and pipelines were laid from far away.
On the occasion of reviewing the Women and Child Welfare Department, the Deputy Chief Minister ordered that small children should be considered as the wealth of the state and those who show small children begging at the main intersections of the city should be identified and appropriate measures should be taken to protect the children. GHMC, police and women and Child Welfare Departments should jointly conduct a special drive. He said that training programs should be conducted in various fields to identify the girls who are dropping out after the 10th standard in rural areas and settle them in their future.
Attendants of patients coming to various government hospitals in the twin cities from across the State have been directed to prepare adequate plans to provide shelter and food to the patients, especially women and their children at the hospitals. Mentioning the fact that nutritional deficiency is high among children in the tribal areas of the state, he said that it is high among tribal boys and girls in Adilabad districts, agency areas and Achampet. He said that the Women and Child Welfare Department should prepare a special plan in collaboration with the Medical and Health Department to prevent this. Steps should be taken to enrol the students in the child care centres in a school like Hyderabad Public School. State Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Minister Dhanasari Anasuya said that steps should be taken to prevent water shortage in rural areas in the coming summer. He asked to allocate more funds than before to Panchayat Raj, Rural Development and Women and Child Welfare Departments.
