Sports City on Krishna riverbank mooted

Must read

Efforts are underway to establish a world-class Sports City along the banks of the Krishna River in the NTR district, as proposed by local MLAs Vasantha Krishna Prasad and Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao. The MLAs have urged Minister P. Narayana to inspect the Krishna Lanka lands near Ibrahimpatnam as a potential site for the ambitious project.
Responding to their request, Minister Narayana, accompanied by NTR District Collector Dr G. Lakshmisha and other senior officials, visited the proposed site for a detailed inspection. The team explored the lanka (river island) lands situated within the NTR and Guntur districts, specifically areas like Pedda Lanka and Chinna Lanka, located within the Krishna River basin.
The Minister and the MLAs conducted a three-kilometre on-foot survey of the riverine lands to assess their suitability for the proposed Sports City.
Minister Narayana made key remarks, stating, “The construction of the Amaravati capital is gaining momentum. Currently, 3,000 workers and 500 machines are active at the site. By the end of this month, approximately 15,000 workers are expected to be engaged in daily construction activities. We aim to complete the Amaravati capital project within three years.”
Regarding the proposed Sports City, Minister Narayana noted that there is growing demand for its establishment in the Mylavaram constituency of NTR district. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu envisions the Sports City as a facility meeting international standards and capable of hosting global sporting events.
To realise this vision, around 2,000 acres of land will be required. A committee will be formed to assess the feasibility of setting up the Sports City in the Krishna Lanka lands. The committee will comprise officials from the Water Resources Department, the District Collector, and other key departments.
The committee is expected to submit a comprehensive report shortly.
