Director General of Police and Head of the Police Forces KV Rajendranadh Reddy has said that all SPs should conduct investigations in at least four to five cases under the new system. As a result, the percentage of convictions in various cases has increased in the State, he said.
During the visit to North Coastal districts, DGP Rajendranadh Reddy convened a meeting on the crimes under the limit of Visakhapatnam Police Commissionerate on Tuesday. He appreciated the Visakhapatnam police for organising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit successfully.
He praised the police officials for arresting the crime rate and the decrease in the number of road accidents and murders. He said that they should also try to reduce the property offences in the city and added that the police department should make a plan of action for the next two months.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP Reddy said that as part of the new policing system, all SPs should investigate cases and participate in the investigation process. This initiative is giving good results in several districts, and also, gradually increasing the convictions of offenders, he said.
The courts have convicted accused in 10 POCSO cases, especially in the Visakhapatnam Police Commissionerate, he added. He further praised Disha Police Station Inspectors. This system should be implemented in all districts to bring about overall changes in the police system, he said.
DGP Reddy said 1.32 lakh kg of ganja was seized in a total of 1,599 incidents across the State. Several accused were identified from 12 States and efforts were being made to arrest them soon with the cooperation of the respective State police department, he said.
Meanwhile, the DGP announced that the AP police were going to organise a special meeting on the illegal transportation of ganja and red sandalwood at Tirupati. He congratulated the police officers for the successful conduct of Lok Adalat.
He said Maoists were active on the Andhra-Odisha border (AOB), and the police department was organising combing operations. The Police Department has prepared a plan of action to identify them and take action, he added.
Also, he said awareness camps would be organised across the State to restrict cyber crimes. As part of this, the department is conducting training programmes for the officers and police personnel, and implementing a Standard Operation Procedure (SOP), he added.
He said that the State government had given consent to recruit 6,500 police personnel, and after giving permission in this regard notification would be issued. Visakhapatnam Range DIG S Hari Krishna, Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner Smith Sunil Garud and other officials were present.
