During the discussion on the President’s address in Parliament on Monday, MP Mathukumilli Sribharat delivered a compelling speech, offering a sharp critique of Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape over the past five years. Drawing upon democratic principles, personal experiences, and literary references, Sribharat highlighted the urgent need for justice, accountability, and a balanced political environment in the State.
Quoting William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Sribharat cautioned against the dangers of unchecked power, stating, “I dare do all that may become a man; who dares do more is none.” He argued that this quote symbolised the misuse of authority and stressed the necessity of balancing power with responsibility.
A significant moment in his address was his emotional reflection on the arrest of former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on September 9, 2023. Sribharat described it as a “dark chapter” in the State’s political history, recalling how he personally witnessed the arrest, an experience that left a deep impact. He termed Chandrababu’s release on October 31, 2023 as a historic turning point for Andhra Pradesh.
Reflecting on the period between 2020 and 2023, Sribharat criticised the atmosphere of fear that overshadowed governance and weakened the State’s democratic fabric. “In a democracy, power should always lie with the people,” he asserted, emphasising the importance of hope and resilience even during challenging times. Citing Newton’s Third Law, Sribharat spoke of the inevitable political backlash against past governance. He reiterated that dishonest leadership cannot sustain itself, quoting, “You can fool some people for some time, but you can never fool all the people forever.”
Looking ahead, Sribharat expressed confidence in the restoration of democratic values, judicial independence, and transparent governance under the NDA’s leadership. “The previous government demonstrated how power can be misused. Now, we in the NDA will show how power can be used for the people,” he declared, assuring the people of Andhra Pradesh of a new era of fair governance.
Sribharat’s speech, filled with messages of justice, accountability, and hope, was a call to action for the people of Andhra Pradesh as they prepare for the 2025 elections, marking a shift towards a future rooted in democratic ideals and transparency.
