Must read

NTR District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha has assured that proactive steps are being taken to address potential drinking water shortages during the summer. He directed officials to continuously monitor the water supply and swiftly resolve any challenges to ensure uninterrupted access to drinking water for the public.
With support from donors, the district administration is setting up cool water supply centres at key locations. On Monday, a cool buttermilk supply centre was inaugurated at the Collectorate’s Pingali Venkayya Meeting Hall in collaboration with the Apadbandhu Trust, aimed at providing relief to visitors, officials, and staff.
Dr. Lakshmisha detailed the existing infrastructure to mitigate water shortages, highlighting that the district has 286-gram panchayats and 794 residential areas equipped with 19 comprehensive protected water supply schemes, 366 protected water supply schemes, 63 small protected schemes, and 439 direct pumping schemes. Additionally, 7,917 hand pumps and water supplied through 44 government and 594 private RO plants contribute to meeting the district’s needs.
To strengthen water availability, measures such as flushing, desilting, and deepening bore wells are being carried out. Officials have been instructed to deploy water tankers in areas experiencing shortages. Special attention is also being given to ensuring that livestock have access to drinking water.
Efforts are underway to establish cool water supply centers at bus stands, hospitals, and major intersections. Officials have been advised to seek donor assistance if required. Awareness campaigns on heat-related health risks will be conducted at the village and ward secretariat levels, and government hospitals are making arrangements to provide immediate treatment for heatstroke victims.
Dr. Lakshmisha also emphasized that government offices are ensuring adequate drinking water supply for both staff and visitors during the summer months.
District Revenue Officer M. Lakshminarasimharao, Apadbandhu Trust Chairman K. Sravan, DMHO Dr. M. Suhasini, and DRDA PD K. Srinivasarao were present at the event.
