Sustainable waste management at Vizag rly station launched

Sustainable waste management aims to keep materials in use for as long as possible and minimize the amount of solid waste that is disposed of in a landfill or through incineration. The environment and House Management wing of Waltair Division have successfully awarded an earning contract to M/s ScrapQ, which is a futuristic start-up, for recycling of Dry Waste which is generated at Visakhapatnam station, Coaching Complex and trains to culminate at Visakhapatnam station. This is the first of its kind in Railways.

Divisional Railway Manager Anup Satpathy launched the project on Monday at Visakhapatnam station in presence of ADRM Operations Manoj Kumar Sahoo, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer SK Patra, CEO of ScapQ S Venkat and other officers and members of ScrapQ.

Speaking on the occasion DRM Shri Anup Satpathy said that this is a remarkable achievement by the Division aimed at increased Sustainability and reducing Carbon footprints per passenger. So the Division is also making the rail users, esteemed customers, and the public to be aware of the Waste being generated per passenger through announcements (audio jingles), media interactions, social media platforms, etc. DRM lauded the untiring efforts of ADRM Operations, and the EnHM Wing team for making this project successful.

The CEO of ScrapQ elaborate on the working of the contract and appreciated the Waltair Division’s initiative in coming forward for Sustainable waste management, a step towards Swachh Bharat-Swachh Rail.
