‘The Saga of a Brave Heart’ screened in Vijayawada

‘The Saga of A Braveheart’, the documentary inspired by the true life story of Lt. Col. Ajit V Bhandarkar, Shourya Chakra (Posthumous) was screened at P B Siddhartha College auditorium, here on Monday.

Lt Col Ajit Bhandarkar, Shourya Chakra (posthumous) had laid down his life in the line of duty while fighting the insurgents at Poonch Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on 30 October 1999 in the finest traditions of the Indian Army.Lt. Col. Bhandarkar did his schooling at Sainik School, Bijapur. After schooling, he was selected for the prestigious National Defence Academy. Subsequently, he passed out from the Indian Military Academy and was commissioned into the 18th Battalion, the Madras Regiment. At the time of attaining martyrdom, he was on deputation to 25 Rashtriya Rifles.

The event was organised by 17 Andhra Battalion NCC, Vijayawada under the aegis of NCC Group Kakinada which was attended by all officers, Associated NCC officers, Instructional Staff, State Government Employees working with NCC and around 600 NCC cadets of Vijayawada NCC units.Ms. Shakuntala Bhandarkar, wife of Lt Col Ajit V Bhandarkar, Shourya Chakra (Posthumous) was the Chief Guest on the occasion. While addressing the gathering Ms. Bhandarkar emphasised the noble cause of serving the nation in uniform. As a testimony to the above, she further added that both her sons are serving in the Indian Armed Forces, one in the Army in his father’s unit and the other in the Indian Navy.
