‘Take steps for welfare of street kids, orphans’

District Collector V Prasanna Venkatesh has directed the officials concerned to form rescue teams in villages and mandals to identify the orphaned children who are roaming on the streets and the street children living on roadsides and take steps for their welfare.

The Collector held a review meeting with the officials of women’s development, child welfare, and district child welfare unit’s various departments working on the situation of street children in the Goutami meeting hall at the local Collectorate on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that street children, children who resort to begging on the streets, and children who are being neglected by their parents should be identified and they should be admitted to the care centres.

For the continuation of their education, they should be provided with the necessary facilities such as Aadhaar. Everyone should recognize social responsibility for the better future of children.

The Collector said that as per the orders of the Supreme Court, the National Child Rights Protection Commission has reviewed the data related to 103 children in the Bala Swaraj portal, which has been set up for monitoring based on the rules and regulations for street children.

Collector Prasanna Venkatesh ordered the ICDS PD, DCPO, and Education Department officials to follow up on the children enrolled in the Anganwadi schools and send proposals to set up special care centres for street children by framing the necessary rules to rehabilitate the victims of child marriages and other reasons.

PD KAVL Padmavathy, DEO RS Gangabhavani, DMHO Dr. B Ravi, Social Welfare JD S Madhusudhana Rao, CWC Chairperson B Ribkarani, and Additional Municipal Commissioner CH Bapiraju were among those who were present.
