Acknowledging the award, the TGPWU released a letter expressing gratitude to the state government and the labour department. “The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union would like to thank Ch Malla Reddy, Minister for Labour and Employment and Devender Reddy, Chairman of Social Security Board for Unorganised Workers of Telangana for presenting this award of Shrama Shakthi to Shaik Salauddin in appreciation for the work he has done.

Shaik Salauddin wants to dedicate this award to the millions of gig and platform workers across India keeping our cities functional and operational,” the organisation stated.
“This is the first time in India where a gig and platform worker has been appreciated for the work he has done for the worker community. Shaik Salauddin has worked tirelessly to secure the rights of the gig and platform workers in India and negotiate their issues with both the govt and the companies. However, millions of young gig and platform workers are still struggling to achieve basic and decent working rights in a free and democratic India,” it added.

“On this Labour Day 2023, we would like to make an appeal to the Central and all state governments to frame laws for social security benefits for the millions of gig and platform workers in India, ”the letter further read.
