Tourism dept records Rs 117 cr turnover in 2022-23: Minister

The Telangana Tourism Department has announced a record turnover of Rs 117 crore for the year 2022-23. The state has achieved an additional turnover of Rs 4 crore in the last financial year, according to Tourism Minister Srinivas Goud, who spoke at the Tourism Department’s review held at Haritha Plaza in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

The minister attributed the success to the better services provided by the department to the tourists. He further stated that efforts are being made to build hostels and hotels in Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Varanasi, and other places on behalf of Telangana tourism. He said that the tourism department is also taking steps to promote historical structures in the state and attract foreign tourists.

He said, “After formation of Telangana state, TSTDC has started with Rs 68 crore turnover in 2014-15. Now, the TSTDC has achieved a milestone record of Rs 100 crore turnover. Within a short span of eight years there is a growth of 73% marking Rs 118 crore during the year 2022-23 even through shortfall in COVID Pandemic period. There is an increase of hotels from 25 to 44, boating units from eight to 22 and new coaches were increased.”

The minister also revealed that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao praised the efforts of the department in developing tourist areas in the state. He reminded everyone that the Ramappa temple was recognised by UNESCO and Bhoodan Pochampally village was selected as the world’s best tourist village, due to CM KCR’s efforts.

Srinivas Goud also reviewed the on-going projects of the corporation and discussed on new projects to be taken up for development of tourism in Telangana state.

The department is taking action against organisations that are enjoying the properties of the tourism department in the name of leases. So far, dues worth Rs 60 crore have been collected. Srinivas Goud said that they aim to make Telangana the best tourism region in the country.

The department is currently working on a range of projects to develop tourism in Telangana, including construction of budget hotels, ropeways, and beautification of tourist destinations like Mahabubnagar, Ranganayaka Sagar Project and Vemulawada. The Minister and Chairman have felicitated the employees for their outstanding performance in TSTDC during the review meeting.
