TS is in forefront of preventing cyber crimes, says DGP

Telangana Director General of Police Anjani Kumar said that Telangana Police is leading the way in India when it comes to preventing cyber crimes and ensuring cyber safety,

Speaking at an online conference on Cyber Security-2023 organised by the Global Counter Terrorism Council and Digital India from New Delhi, DGP Anjani Kumar noted that Telangana was the first state to establish a Cyber Safety Bureau to investigate and prevent cyber crimes.

He said, “Telangana is the first state to establish a Cyber Safety Bureau to investigate and prevent cyber crimes. He said that around 600 leading IT companies of the world including Microsoft are established in Hyderabad and around 10 lakh IT employees and professionals are working here. There are a significant number of cyber literates in Hyderabad and surrounding areas.”

“However, cyber crimes have increased as is happening all over the world. In all, 2,691 cyber-based cases were registered in the state in 2019, 5,024 in 2020, 10,303 in 2021 and 15,217 in 2022. The Cyber Security Bureau has been specially formed to face the challenges in cyber security. In all, 500 officers and staff were appointed in this bureau set up at the Integrated Command and Control Centre,” DGP Anjani Kumar added.

The DGP said that cyber crime investigation teams have been formed in every district of the state. Cyber crime complaints are registered through toll free number 1930, 100. In respect of cyber-based financial crimes Rs 65 crore has been recovered. Largescale awareness programmes are being conducted to face the increasing threats of cyber crimes. Police officers have been trained as cyber warriors in 800 police stations of the state to face cyber crime.

DGP Anjani Kumar’s comments came as part of a wider discussion on the National Architecture for Cyber Space Management by the Telangana Government. The state government is keen to ensure that Telangana remains a leader in cyber security and safety, particularly given the state’s significant presence in the IT sector.
