Dr Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development (MCR-HRD) Institute has launched a two-week training programme on Journalism and Public Relations for media professionals from Vietnam sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme on Monday.
Dr Shashank Goel, Director General of the Institute and Spl Chief Secretary to Government of Telangana, who was the chief guest, said that Journalism and Public Relations have a profound impact on shaping the society and driving global discourse. They serve as the voice of people, holding power to account and facilitate informed decision-making.
He said, “In the context of Vietnam, known for its colourful cultural heritage, exciting journey of economic development and rich democratic traditions, the importance of further diversifying and enriching the skills of its media professionals assumes great importance. Journalism and public relations are not merely professions, they are indispensable pillars of any democratic society and thereby serve as the voice of people, holding power to account and facilitating informed decision-making.”
Dr Shashank Goel stated that in the past, traditional media, that is, newspapers, radio and television, from across the globe, have been holding significant sway in public communications. These channels have been keeping the citizens well informed about societal issues and empowering them to contribute to positive change and inclusive development. However, the emergence of social media platforms that is Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc. brought about a profound transformation in the world of media with their speed and unprecedented access to global audiences. “It is not just a shift; it is a revolution, driven by new tools and techniques, including Artificial Intelligence”, he added.

Furthermore he said, “With these advancements come significant challenges. The proliferation of misinformation and fake news pose a grave threat to the integrity of journalism and the trust of the public. It is incumbent upon media professionals to uphold the principles of accuracy, impartiality, and ethical conduct in their pursuit of truth. In this rapidly evolving landscape, the role of Media and Public Relations Officers is more critical than ever. You are not mere messengers of news; you are facilitators of unbiased and public-interest dialogue. “
