The South Central Railway took a crucial decision on Thursday evening to start the Vande Bharat train service for the benefit of Ayyappa devotees from December 15.
It declared that the train service would be operated twice a week from Chennai and Kottayam.
On December 15, 17, 22 and 24, the train will leave Chennai for Kottayam and returns to Chennai leaving Kottayyam on December 16, 18, 23 and 25.
The train leaves Dr MGR Central Railway Station in Chennai on December 15, 17, 22 and 24 at 4.15 am and reaches Kottayyam at 4.15 pm the same evening. In the return direction the train leaves Kottayyam at 4.40 am on December 16, 18, 23 and 25 to reach Chennai at 5.15 pm, the SCR officials said.
En route, the train halts at Katpadi, Selam, Palakkad and Aluwa railway stations, they added.
