Victim of harassment to get free ration for three months

State SC Commission Chairman Marumudi Victor Prasad met a girl who was allegedly subjected to harassment at Prakashnagar here on Thursday and enquired about her plight.
Talking to the media, Victor Prasad said that the teenage victim was taken to the house of Sambaiah Chowdary to work as a maidservant. Sometime later she was tortured mentally and physically by the accused.

Moreover, the girl was forced into the flesh trade. The pathetic tale of the girl came to light and the Pattabhipuram police registered a case. However, the police had not arrested the accused so far, Victor Babu said. The names of three more accused were not included in the FIR, he stated.

The SC Commission is striving to do justice to all the victims, he said, and condemned the girl being forced into the flesh trade by the accused. He directed the officials concerned to provide the victim accommodation and other facilities in the women’s hostel. Efforts are being made to provide a job to the atrocities victim by speaking to the Collector and SP, he said. He also asked the DSP to provide security to her.

The SC Commission chairman lamented that the victim is an orphaned girl and she was meted out heinous torture by her tormenters. At a point in time, she thought of committing suicide but did not do so for the sake of her blind elder brother. He asked the officials to provide her with essentials sufficient for three months and provide accommodation for her visually challenged brother at a social welfare hostel.

Castes under section 347/376 SC/ST Atrocities Act were registered against the accused on November 8. Steps were taken to disburse ex gratia to the atrocities victim, Victor Prasad informed. DRO Seshi Reddy, Social Welfare T Obul Naidu, MRO Ramana Naik and DSP Vijay Bhaskar Rao were among those who were present.
