NTR District Collector S Dilli Rao and Guntur Range DIG Trivikram Varma flagged off the seventh edition of the Vijayawada Marathon-2022, organised by the Vijayawada Runners and Shriram City, on Sunday. About 1,500 runners participated in the marathon held in three different categories — a 21 K run that was flagged off at 5 am, a 10 K run flagged off at 6.15 am, and a 5 K run that began at 6.45 am — at D Address Mall on MG Road. Interestingly, many senior citizens also took part in the marathon.

On the occasion, Collector Dilli Rao said it was good to see a huge crowd that included men, women, youth, students, senior citizens, and kids participating in the run with enthusiasm. “Participation is important rather than winning and everyone should develop the habit of walking and running in the morning, which is good for health and keeps us fit,” he added.

The DIG said that the Vijayawada Runners Association and Shriram City’s ambition was to make the city a world-class running destination and earn it a special spot in the Indian running calendar. He also said that running was a good way to achieve a healthy and fit way of life. A total of 117 officers, subordinate officers, and jawans of the 10th Bn NDRF, along with their family members, participated in the marathon.

In the 21 K men’s category, R Ramesh Chand, T Brahma Reddy, and Vishal Abhishek secured the first, second and third places, respectively while in the women’s section, V Navya, K Kamala, and P Sunitha bagged the first, second and third places.

In the 10 K men’s category, B Ramesh, V Ramesh and Pawan Kalyan Nayak emerged as winners. In the women’s category, Yuthika, Phalak Khan and Lakshmi Sri secured the first, second and third places.
