Digitalisation will bring past glory to libraries: Appireddy

YSRCP MLC Lella Appireddy has said that digitalisation would bring the past glory to the libraries and described libraries as modern temples. The 55th National Library Week programme concluded here on Sunday. The valedictory function held in the city was presided over by Zilla Granthalaya Samstha Chairman Battula Devanand.

Speaking on the occasion, Lella Appireddy said that the government had taken steps to digitalize the libraries in order to bring the past glory. He said that various programs had been organised since November 14 as part of national library week. The MLC assured all needed support from the government to maintain libraries and promote reading habits. District libraries chairman Battula Devanand appreciated the staff of libraries for organising the programmes grandly.

Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu said that though the development of technology, the libraries had not lost their significance. The knowledge the libraries give is enormous and amazing, he said and lauded Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy for his support for modernizing and renovating libraries in the state.

Mirch yard Chairman Chandragiri Yesuratnam expressed regret that the negligence of the previous governments resulted in people forgetting about libraries. At this stage, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who took charge as the Chief Minister, had taken steps to strengthen the library system and make it more accessible to the people.

Yesuratnam informed that he had built a library in his native village in the name of his mother. State Library Parishat Chairman Mandapati Seshagiri Rao and deputy mayor Vanama Vajrababu also spoke. Urban Bank Director Banda Ravindranath, corporator Venkata Krishna and other leaders were present.
