An exciting political reality is unfolding. Alliances, patch-ups, joining as well as rejoinings, and staying away from contest have been completed in a hectic manner. Now every party and every neta is hell-bent on pocketing victory at any cost. They are virtually on a campaign blitzkrieg.
With just three weeks to go for the battle of ballots, the political arena in Telangana is heating up day by day. Mutual castigations, accusations, and derisions apart, numerous unexpected issues come in handy for them to deride rivals and gain an upper hand in influencing the minds of the people. In the battle of wits, nothing stops anyone. Every party and every candidate has to shoulder his lot. The candidates are fighting their own battle. Winning or losing will invariably rest on them. They have none to blame except themselves should anything untoward happen. Unless one pursues doggedly like a soldier to make the most of his or her winning chances, the proverbial ‘there is many a slip between the cup and the lip’ might come into play.
All the major parties and their leaders have been participants in the dance of democracy. If things are not in tune with the mindset of people, the dance might lose its rhythm rendering even the most concentrated effort fruitless. Ironically, in a democracy, the fight for power among parties is not for mutual elimination but for luring candidates with winning chances and eliminating the winning chances of one another.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao has been campaigning all over the state with his punch lines and sarcastic attacks on the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is sparing none to establish the indispensability of BRS for the protection of the interests of Telangana. The point to be noted here is that he went to the extent of defending regional parties for the effective protection of the interests of the respective states, though BRS has positioned itself as a national party. Although he might be targeting the Congress and the BJP, this apparent change of stance on his part led to confusion as to what he meant in the first place.
Since the announcement of the elections, BRS has been confident enough that it would hit a century. But the latest statement of Minister K T Rama Rao that it would be difficult for the Congress to get 40-odd seats leaves many things to be read between the lines. Whatever be the reason for it, the main fight appears to be between the BRS and the Congress, and the ruling party’s brass, it appears, is aware of it. The BJP, which is striving to give a good fight, is moving heaven and earth to penetrate the minds of people. With the exit of the Telugu Desam Party and the YSR Telangana Party, the battle lines have been clearly drawn. The main contenders are on a war path not seen in the recent history of Telangana. The state level leaders of both Congress and the BJP have to shoulder the main responsibility of taking their respective parties to the shores of victory as their national leaders need to cater to the campaigning needs in the other four states which are going to polls along with Telangana.
The advantage for KCR is that he has nowhere to go for campaigning and is deeply concentrating on a hat-trick win by showcasing the achievements over the last nine years and making people realise the difference between the regime of the BRS in TS and those of the other parties in the combined Andhra Pradesh. Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AICC leader Rahul Gandhi have been doing their best to refurbish the winning chances of their parties by giving them the needed push and power.
As it is not a chance fight but a fight for a chance to rule the state, all three parties are tremendously equipped to fight it out to have the last laugh. In this no-holds-barred fight for power, all the contending parties have been trying hard to showcase their achievements in order to prove their sincerity and commitment, and in this regard, the BRS has many things to show and the Congress has success in implementing the guarantees in Karnataka and the BJP has the development track record. And the rest rests with the people of Telangana.
Who will have the last laugh in this threesome?
