Senior Congress leader Mohammad Ali Shabbir can turn out to be a giant killer in Kamareddy in the Telangana Assembly elections as BRS President Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to contest from Kamareddy along with Gajwel.
Shabbier had won twice from this constituency and hopes to win in the upcoming Assembly elections too.
In the last two Assembly elections after the formation of the Telangana State, Shabbier was defeated by BRS candidate Gampa Govardhan.
In the 2014 Assembly elections, the difference in votes between Shabbier and Gampa Govardhan was around 5.5% and in the 2018 election, the difference came down to around 3%. After the Congress victory in Karnataka, the Congress created hype in Telangana that it is going to win the next Assembly election. This gave hope to many Congress leaders.
Reacting to KCR’s announcement to contest from Kamareddy too, Shabbier said that the KCR would face his biggest defeat in Kamareddy.
In the 1989 Assembly elections in United Andhra Pradesh, Congress leader Chittaranjan Das had become the giant Killer by defeating then Chief Minister NT Rama Rao in Kalvakurthy. Now Shabbier is also hoping to become a giant killer by defeating KCR in Kamareddy. But it is not easy for Shabbier to defeat KCR in Kamareddy.
During the 1989 Assembly elections, there was a clear wave against the then TDP government headed by NTR. But now there is no such wave against the TRS government or against KCR. Unless there is a popular wave against the BRS it is not easy for Shabbier to defeat KCR.
Shabbier is trying to raise local and non-local issues against KCR. Earlier, KCR had changed Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies but he has never been defeated and has got a track record of winning wherever he contests.
