Actor Vijay Deverakonda celebrates his birthday on May 9 and the makers of his upcoming film Kingdom are planning a special update to mark the occasion. The film is seen as a crucial project for the actor, who has been going through a rough patch in his career over the past few years.
Vijay had pinned high hopes on Liger, directed by Puri Jagannadh and co-starring Ananya Panday. However, the film turned out to be a massive box office failure. Even before Liger, several of his films failed to create a strong commercial impact. His last major blockbuster was Geetha Govindam, which released back in 2018.
Though Dear Comrade didn’t achieve box office success, it found appreciation on streaming platforms and in other languages, especially on YouTube, with Vijay receiving praise for his performance. Still, the film didn’t provide the commercial breakthrough he was looking for.
Now, all eyes are on Kingdom, which is slated for release on May 30. The film shows Vijay in a completely new avatar and both the teaser and the songs have already garnered positive responses. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri of Jersey fame, Kingdom also stars Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead and is produced by Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments.
