Woman gang-raped, two arrested

A 35-year-old woman, working as a daily wage labourer, has been gang-raped by three men in Penamaluru of Krishna district. The accused contacted her on the pretext of work, made her consume alcohol and committed the crime. Police have arrested two of the culprits, identified as Addepalli Srinivas (40) and Nagaraju (50), and are searching for another accused Ravi, who is absconding.

According to the police, all three accused are daily wage labourers, too, and residents of Vijayawada. The victim, who is also a resident of the city, was taken to a room near Sanath Nagar, the outskirts of Vijayawada city on Friday by four people claiming that they had work to be done at their place. There, the woman was made to consume alcohol with them and when she was under the influence of alcohol, the accused committed rape. Later, they locked her in the room and she was also branded with cigarettes.

The woman, who somehow managed to escape, is currently undergoing treatment at the Vijayawada Government Hospital with serious injuries.
