YSRCP MLA A Joga Rao has claimed that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government is ruling the State as per the aspirations of Jyotirao Phule.
The MLA paid rich tributes to Jyotirao Phule on the occasion of the 133rd death anniversary here on Tuesday. The YSRCP leaders garlanded the portrait of Jyotirao Phule at the YSR Marg.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Joga Rao said that Jyotirao Phule was a social activist who had striven for the underprivileged sections. He opposed the caste system and he was a social reformer and a writer, he said. Phule fought against the untouchability in society, he said, adding that he also strongly advocated education to the people of backward communities.
“Jyotirao Phule was not only a great social reformer but also a pioneer for women’s education. Jyotirao Phule’s wife Savitribai Phule opened a school for girls in 1848 at Bhidewada in Pune,” Joga Rao recalled. All should remember Jyotirao Phule’s efforts for the uplift of underprivileged sections and eradication of disparity, he added.
Jyotirao Phule founded the ‘Society of Seekers of Truth’ on September 24, 1873, to provide equal rights to the underprivileged sections, the MLA said.
