Remember Akshay Kumar’s character in Khiladi 786, Bahattar Singh? It was one of the most remarkable performances of the actor that grabbed our attention. An actor is always appreciated when they give us some memorable characters. But something that we forget about is what goes on to style the character.
The designers and stylists go through a lot of work, all day and night, so that the actor resembles accurately how the script demands. However, they are yet to be highly spoken of. With the rising popularity and demand, there have been several opportunities for them to contribute substantially to art creation.
Komal Shahani is one such talent, who has been in the industry for over a decade now, and has done several notable works. She has collaborated with ace directors and actors like Akshay Kumar and Thalapathy Vijay, to name a few. She has been a go-to person for many including actor Akshay Kumar, with whom she has worked on several previous projects like Khiladi 786, Boss, and many advertisements like Lodha, Kurkure, Sting, and many more.
Having an innate sense of visual storytelling that seamlessly blends with the director’s perception, she has her own process, which has also grabbed attention down south. Known for the custom-made styling that she does, Komal Shahani has also worked with Chiyaan Vikram for Cobra and styled Thalapathy Vijay for his blockbuster films like Theri, Jilla, Bigil, Thupakki, and Mersal. She has closely worked with Jawan director Atlee, with whom she also shares a great camaraderie.
Understanding the director’s vision to knowing what could suit the best to the director’s vision, Komal Shahani says, “I have always believed in giving my best to work given to me. It has been a fruitful journey over the years that has pushed me always to bring something different. Working with industry legends such as Akshay Sir, Thalapathy Vijay Sir, and Chiyaan Vikram Sir has been an unforgettable experience. It has been a curving path in my career. Many great projects are lined up, and I hope to contribute a lot to the world of cinema.”
Her upcoming film Selfiee, produced by Dharma Productions, will showcase her custom-made look and feel of Akshay Kumar and Mrunal Thakur. She has also signed an International project with director Tarsem Singh and writer Balaji Mohan’s movie for actress Amala Paul.
