BRS aiming for mega win, not simple majority

Must read

The BRS wants not just a majority but an outstanding majority. BRS leaders are now declaring that they will win more than 100 Assembly seats.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said the BRS will win 105 Assembly seats if elections are held in Telangana now.

“There is always a threat of Ekanth Shinde-type groups emerging if we get only a simple majority. Our party doesn’t want resort politics and it will be a shame for a party which won Telangana. We cannot rule out such issues especially when both the BJP and the Congress are keen on the state,” BRS sources said.

With the BJP performing better than the Congress in the Telugu areas of Karnataka, the BRS is not anticipating a meteoric rise by the Congress. In Telugu-speaking areas like Bengaluru and constituencies in border districts like Bidar, the BJP fared better than the Congress.

In seven Karnataka constituencies sharing a border with Telangana, the BJP won while the JDS won two seats and the Congress seven.

The BRS leadership is aware of the anti-incumbency in Telangana. It would be a record if the BRS wins a third time as no government ever got a third mandate.

KTR himself said on Monday at a public meeting, “We need a stable government and an able leader. It is not just important to win. KCR becoming CM a third time is not important. It is not important to win just a simple majority. We have to win 100 seats and show the country that our government is getting a hat-trick. We have to work for that.”
