Collector, SP warn against violating MCC

West Godavari District Collector Sumit Kumar and Superintendent of Police Ajitha Vejendla warned of stringent action against those who violate the Model Code of Conduct.
District Collector Sumit Kumar and District SP Ajitha Vejend held a joint press conference on Saturday here and explained the measures being taken to conduct the general elections.
Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the code of conduct of elections is being strictly implemented in the district. A report is sent to the ECI every day detailing the cases registered in violation of the MCC, he said, adding that 41 complaints have been received so far and 29 of them have been resolved.  The Collector has also claimed that action was taken on 19 complaints within 100 minutes.
Collector Sumit Kumar clarified that five check-posts have been set up in the district and every vehicle and two-wheeler belonging to ministers, other public representatives and citizens would be checked and no one is exempted.
Stating that so far Rs 19.25 lakh cash has been seized in the district, he said that check-posts have been set up at Chinchinada in Palakollu Constituency, Siddhanta in Achanta Constituency, Losari in Bhimavaram Constituency, Dumpagadapa in Undi Constituency and Peda Tadepally in TadepalliGudem Constituency.
“Prior permits must be obtained for holding any kind of campaign, public meetings and meetings in places of prayer, ” he said. So far, 101 applications have been received from various political parties for various permissions, out of which 95 applications have been granted permissions,” he made it clear.
“So far 11 volunteers have been sacked for violating the Election Code of Conduct. Stringent action will be initiated if MCC is violated by the volunteers. We have yet to receive the specific duties of volunteers from the CEC,” the Collector said.
SP Ajitha Vejendla said that all steps were being taken to create an atmosphere in which even a common voter could cast a vote. Focus was laid on the problematic and most problematic polling stations. The Command Control rooms work round the clock. Action will be taken within 90 minutes on the complaints of violation of code conduct.
She said that five check-posts conduct checking of vehicles round the clock at the district borders. Elaborate steps are being taken to conduct elections in the district without even a minor incident, the SP made it clear. Election superintendent Ch Durga Prasad and other officials were among those who attended the meeting.
