District Collector MN Harendhira Prasad has urged local industrialists to channel their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds towards enhancing education and healthcare services in the district. Speaking at a meeting with industrialists on Saturday, the Collector stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in the use of these funds. “We must focus on the well-being of our local communities by using CSR funds effectively,” Prasad said. “Every penny should be spent with a clear understanding of local needs.”
The Collector outlined critical areas requiring immediate attention, including the upgrading of hospitals, improving infrastructure in government schools and hostels, and ensuring clean drinking water for students. He also noted the need for modern equipment for the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and the fire department, stating, “GVMC needs advanced tools for effective waste collection, and our fire department must be equipped with the latest technology to handle emergencies efficiently.”
Prasad also emphasised the importance of modernising the burn ward at KGH, highlighting recent difficulties in treating accident victims. “The burn ward at KGH needs urgent modernisation. We must establish a state-of-the-art facility to ensure that no life is lost due to inadequate care,” he said. “CSR funds will be vital in upgrading our educational and healthcare institutions. We need to provide our students with the best facilities and ensure our healthcare services can meet future challenges.”
Addressing environmental concerns, the Collector encouraged industrialists to actively contribute to protecting the environment and enhancing greenery in the district. “We must collaborate to create a greener Visakhapatnam,” he said. The meeting was attended by Deputy Inspector of Factories Suresh, the Assistant Director of the Industries Department, representatives from various companies, and other officials.
