Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections the Congress and the BJP are suffocating the BRS.
The Operation Aakarsh launched by these two parties has netted some BRS leaders including sitting MPs and MLCs and they have left the party and joined the BJP and the Congress.
BRS MP BB Patil who joined the BJP recently got a BJP ticket from his sitting Zaheerabad Lok Sabha constituency.
Another BRS MP, P. Ramulu, who joined the BJP succeeded in getting a BJP ticket for his son P. Bharath from his sitting Nagarkurnool Lok Sabha seat.
Meanwhile, the BRS’s richest leaders are not showing any interest in contesting the Lok Sabha elections. Survey reports have a great impact on these BRS leaders.
During the Assembly elections, the BRS had announced M. Hanumanth Rao as its candidate in Malkajgiri. But Hanumanth Rao joined the Congress.
BRS Minister Ch. Mallareddy succeeded in getting the Malkajgiri Assembly seat for his son-in-law Marri Rajasekhar Reddy. But now the same Mallareddy told the BRS leadership that his son is not interested in contesting from the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat.
The BRS leadership had thought about fielding Mallareddy’s son Bhadra from the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency. But Bhadra said, “I have informed the BRS leadership that I am not interested in contesting the Lok Sabha elections. I think that as my father and brother-in-law are BRS MLAs, I should wait for some more time to get into electoral politics.”
There were speculations that Mallareddy and his son-in-law are likely to join the Congress. However, Mallareddy said that he would continue in the BRS.
The BRS leadership is worried about some of its prominent leaders leaving at a time when the party is in trouble. Some BRS MLAs are planning to join the Congress and they are waiting for an appropriate time. BRS MLAs are meeting Chief Minister Revanth Reddy one after the other although the BRS leadership is against that.
On one side pre-election survey reports are disturbing BRS leaders who want to contest in the Lok Sabha elections and at the same time they are not sure that BRS MLAs would work for them as some of them have made up their minds to join the Congress.
Apart from this, the AIMIM is likely to support the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. Muslim voters will play a key role in many Assembly constituencies.
BRS leaders think that the current political atmosphere is not in their favour. During the Assembly elections, many BRS leaders approached the party leadership for Assembly tickets. But now the situation has changed. The party leadership is approaching leaders and offering Lok Sabha tickets.
