Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao expressed confidence that agriculture will continue to flourish in the State
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has said that the government implemented an unprecedented loan waiver scheme benefiting 22 lakh farmers across Telangana. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the Shadnagar Agricultural Market Committee, the Minister emphasised the government’s commitment to supporting farmers. He also revealed plans to distribute an additional Rs. 3,000 crore to farmers who have not yet received loan waivers. This distribution is set to take place during the upcoming Farmers’ Festival in Palamuru district.
The swearing-in ceremony was held on Wednesday under the leadership of Shadnagar MLA Veerlapalli Shankar. Sulochana Krishna Reddy was sworn in as the Chairperson of the Market Committee, with Mohammed Ali Khan Babar as the Vice Chairman. Other directors also took oath in the presence of Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and State Warehousing Corporation Chairman Nageswara Rao.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Nageswara Rao criticised the previous government for accruing huge debts. He lauded the current Congress government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for prioritising agriculture by allocating Rs. 47,000 crore to the sector in the state budget.
Highlighting the government’s achievements, the Minister announced plans for a Rs. 1,000 crore model market in Koheda, Rangareddy district, which will cater to both farmers and traders. He also stated that Telangana rice has gained significant demand in international markets, including Malaysia and the Philippines, and that efforts are underway to boost its exports.
He further detailed the state’s agricultural progress, noting that 66 lakh acres of land were cultivated this year, yielding 153 crore metric tonnes of paddy. The government, he said, would procure the produce and provide a bonus to farmers.
Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao praised Shadnagar’s potential, emphasising that the establishment of the Regional Ring Road would transform land value in the constituency. “The lands in Shadnagar will become as valuable as gold, and this area, being close to Hyderabad, will see unparalleled development,” he remarked.
During the ceremony, MLA Veerlapalli Shankar requested the minister to establish a new agricultural market committee in Kondurgu mandal and set up a cold storage facility for the benefit of local farmers. The Minister immediately approved both initiatives, highlighting his commitment to the constituency’s progress.
Concluding his speech, Minister Tummala expressed confidence that Telangana’s agricultural sector would continue to flourish with the state government working tirelessly to support farmers and promote growth across all sectors.
