Fake vehicle insurance gang busted, 17 arrested

The police on Thursday revealed that a 17-member gang involved in a fake insurance racket was busted. The members were involved n preparing and selling fake vehicle insurance racket, according to District Superintendent of Police K Srujana.

The arrested hailed from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States.

The Superintendent of Police told the media that the police seized a car, two motorcycles, laptops, documents and fake insurance documents from the arrested persons. The accused possessed 16 mobile phones.

Srujana said the accused were preparing fake vehicle insurance policies and selling them to vehicle owners. The accused seemed to have been operating for a long time in the district. The arrested were produced before the court on Thursday.

The police raided the offices of the accused after receiving a tip-off. A case was registered under various sections.

The entire episode came to light after a vehicle owner in Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh claimed insurance for his vehicle which met with an accident. The insurance firm found it a fake insurance document. The vehicle owner lodged a complaint with the police in Kurnool.

The Kurnool police arrested a person, named Ramaswamy, and from him collected all the details regarding the fake insurance racket. On the information from the Kurnool police, the Jogulamba Gadwal police investigated the racket and arrested 17 persons. The arrested hailed from Kurnool and Nandayal in Andhra Pradesh and Wanaparthy, Nagarkurnool, Gadwal and Nalgonda districts in Telangana State, the police said.
