Gemini Edible & Fats India Limited (GEF India) has adopted Kotha Cheruvu Lake, allocating Rs 1.20 crore for its restoration to promote environmental sustainability. In partnership with HMDA, Telangana Social Impact Group (T-SIG), and Dhruvansh (NGO), the project aims to rejuvenate the critical water body in Kokapet.
As part of its CSR efforts, GEF India is committed to preserving natural resources for neighbouring communities.
The restoration project focuses on cleaning the lake, improving water quality and preserving biodiversity using sustainable technologies. It also aims to raise awareness about water resource management and ecological conservation.
During an event at the lake on Friday, Commissioner of HMDA, Sarfaraz Ahmad and Mailaram Nagapurna, Chairman of Narsingi Municipality, appreciated GEF India’s contribution.
They emphasised the project’s role in enhancing the local ecosystem and urged the community to protect the lake post-restoration.
Meanwhile, Group Vice-President, GEF India, Akshay Chowdhary, said, “Adopting Kotha Cheruvu reflects our commitment to sustainability and improving quality of life for the region.”
Archana Suresh, Director, T-SIG, highlighted the project as a successful CSR collaboration with the Telangana government, highlighting the importance of ecological conservation in Hyderabad. She noted that this initiative ensures a healthier, sustainable ecosystem, benefitting both nature and the community.
