Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha member and National Chillies Taskforce chairman GVL Narasimha Rao inaugurated the newly constructed office of the Chillis Export Association of India in the market yard here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that Rs 8,500 transactions had taken place during the FY 2021-22 in the Guntur Mirchi yard which has earned a reputation internationally.
The Guntur chilli market yard has another advantage with the setting up of the chillies export office, he said. He felt that a market yard should be established on 250 acres of land at the outskirts of Guntur city with all modern facilities. The Central government is ready to develop new market yards by spending Rs one lakh crore, he informed.
The speciality of Guntur mirchi yard is that importers from other countries come here to buy the chilli produce. “If you come to Delhi within a week with appropriate proposals on market yard issues, we will provide you with appropriate assistance from the Central government,” he told the officials.
Market yard chairman Chandragiri Yesuratnam, market yard secretary I Venkateswar Reddy, Chilli export association president Velagapudi Sambashiva Rao and general secretary Thota Ramakrishna were among those who attended.
Meanwhile, MP GVL Narasimha Rao escaped from being kicked by a cow in the mirch yard on Saturday. GVL tried to namaskar to a cow in the market yard. When he was nearing the cow, it tried to kick him with its leg but he went back immediately. Later the organisers tamed the cow and invited GVL to venerate it but he did not.
