Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that innovations contribute to 25 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and digital payments reach 25 per cent of the total transactions. He said this during the inaugural of the second edition of IInvenTiv 2024 at the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IIT-H) on Friday.
Minister Pradhan said, “We are adequately supported by 5G and Digital India drive. Our Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) is a great enabler. As earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that the world today sees India as the incubator of innovation, where 46 per cent of global digital payment transactions are now in India, which is one shining example of the success of our policies. Digital payments reach 25 per cent of the total transactions in India. India has the advantage to lead the world of innovation and technology as the country has contributed various innovations since ancient times – finding the number zero and Ayurveda. The NEP 2020 focuses on creativity and critical thinking to encourage logical decision-making and innovation. Viksit Bharat is our Sankalp. With the cooperation and support of our technology experts and innovators, we will be able to achieve salvation.”
He also said, ” The US Congress recently passed a resolution to laud the contribution of IITians to the development of the USA. IInvenTiv-2024 at IIT Hyderabad signifies a momentous gathering of brilliant minds, visionaries, and trailblazers in the realms of science, technology, and industry. As we embark on this transformative journey, I recognise the crucial role of education in realising the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal for transformative education aligns seamlessly with this initiative, and IIT Hyderabad, known for its commitment to academic excellence, provides an ideal backdrop for this collaborative endeavour.”
Further, the Minister said that the event is not just a meeting point for academia and industry but also is a powerhouse that drives economic growth, job creation, and nurtures a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. The innovations showcased over here, especially from India’s premier institutes, are instrumental in shaping the trajectory of our nation. InvenTiv-2024 aims to showcase the holistic impact of the research and innovation carried out by the top Higher Education Institutes in our country.

Concern over students’ suicides at IITs
Minister Pradhan expressed concern over students’ suicides in IITs, at a press meet organised at IIT-H. He said, “It is very sad to witness students committing suicides in IITs. Whoever commits suicide in the society is wrong. We have set up committees in educational institutions to provide counselling to students.”
