BRS MLC K Kavitha on Monday on Monday appealed to the Congress government not to delay in conducting the caste census. She demanded that the government provide 42 reservations for Backward Classes. She also wanted the government to implement its Backward Classes manifesto which was released ahead of the Assembly elections last year.
Speaking to the media after attending a roundtable meeting on ‘BC’s Rights’ here, Kavitha said the Congress had made several promises in its Backward Classes manifestos and came to power in the State by getting their votes. The government should fulfil the promises made ahead of the Assembly elections.
The previous BRS government had issued a GO mandating 85 per cent of posts in residential schools to be filled with women. She alleged that the GO was cancelled by the Congress government. The Chief Minister was trying to deceive the youth and students by backtracking on poll promises, she said.
Kavita has reiterated her demand that Mahatma Jyotiba Phule’s statue be installed on the premises of the State Legislative Assembly before his birth anniversary next month.
She was taking part in a Round Table held here on Monday under the joint aegis of the Bharat Jagruti and United Phule Front.
For the last time, enumeration of the BCs was conducted in 1931. Therefore, she demanded an enumeration of the BCs across Telangana.
The Andhra Pradesh enacted a law to conduct caste census. She demanded that the Congress government in Telangana too should conduct a caste census. The Congress government promised to implement the BC Sub-plan by allocating Rs 20,000 crore in the State budget, but it allocated only Rs 8,000 crore for the purpose, she observed.
