One of the city’s first charitable healthcare organisations, Mahavir Hospital and Research Centre (MHRC) is all set to receive freehold on the land allotted for lease in 1975.

The hospital management announced that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has approved MHRC as freehold land. A Government Order is set to be released soon in this regard. The hospital is currently under a spree of expansion following the new update.

On Thursday, Mahavir Hospital and Research Centre Managing Committee and Standing Committee organised a meeting to express gratitude to CM KCR, Health Minister Harish Rao and Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav for their support to uplift the hospital and the Jain community.

Mahendra Ranka, Chairman, Sushil Kapadia, Vice-Chairman, Sunil Pahade, Managing Trustee, Sushil Sancheti, Treasurer Trustee and others participated.

Mahendra Ranka said, “On completion of the 30 years the lease, it was further extended in the year 2007 for the period of 30 years. It leased three-and-a-half acres of land at a nominal least amount of Rs 12 per year for 30 years. Since Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Trust (BMMT) is a charitable institution with a nature of services and run ‘not for profit’ basis, it appealed to the authorities to accord a freehold on the land.”

Sushil Kapadia, Vice-Chairman, said that the hospital has grown. It is a 220-bedded hospital with all the specialities and providing yeoman services to the community.

“Mahavir Hospital is the first one to start a dialysis centre in the state to treat patients with chronic kidney diseases. The centre used to be one of the largest dialysis centres with 63 dialysis machines. It served 3,750 dialysis per month to the poor and needy at Rs 300 per dialysis. More than 1,000 kidney transplantation operations were carried out,” he said.

The committee members further added that they are expanding their Gastroenterology department, Cardiology section, Gynecology and Oncology treatments with corporate level equipment at affordable prices. They are also revamping their ICU units.

They said that their ultimate goal is to offer corporate-level treatment at affordable prices to every person with no discrimination. The hospital has made major strides in TB research and earned recognition world-wide.
