As part of raising awareness on the importance of energy conservation, NTR District Collector Dr S Dilli Rao flagged off a rally organised by the State Energy Conservation Mission here on Wednesday. Later, he took part in the rally along with students and proceeded to the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, where he recited an oath to the students.
The Collector said that there was a need to bring a change in people’s attitude towards energy consumption through awareness campaigns. “By conserving energy, the environment would be protected. We should do that for the future generations,” he said. “Power can be generated from wind and sunlight. Our country gets plenty of sunlight,” he added.
He further said that everyone should be aware of the value of energy and energy conservation because natural resources like gas, coal and crude oil were declining. People should not waste electricity. Students, particularly, should be aware of energy conservation, he added.
He said that people should switch off the lights during daytime, and in the night we should use electricity judiciously. Everyone should minimise power consumption and contribute to energy conservation. People should use equipment powered by solar energy, such as water heaters, he said.
