Plantation drive as part of ‘Green My Street’ initiative

In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and enhance the green cover in the city, a large-scale plantation programme was conducted at Hanumanthawaka on Wednesday as part of the “Green My Street” initiative.
The event, organized under the Eco Vizag campaign, saw the participation of officials and citizens alike, showcasing a shared commitment to environmental conservation. During the drive, various tree species, carefully selected for local adaptability, were planted to ensure the long-term ecological sustainability of the area.
The “Green My Street” initiative aims to transform urban spaces by encouraging citizens to actively engage in tree plantation drives, creating green corridors across the city. Speaking at the event, Atish Chandra, Additional Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, expressed optimism, stating, “Initiatives like ‘Green My Street’ not only contribute to the beautification of our cities but also play a vital role in mitigating the effects of climate change.”
Mayor GHV Kumari urged citizens to join hands in making their streets greener, emphasizing the role of community participation in building a sustainable future. Dr G Lakshmisha, MD, Andhra Pradesh Urban Finance and Development Corporation (APUFIDC) also emphasized the need for collaborative efforts, stating, “By working together, we can create urban spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally responsible.”
The successful execution of the plantation program at Hanumanthawaka stands as a testament to the collective commitment of government officials and citizens toward building a greener and healthier city under the umbrella of the “Green My Street” initiative.
