‘Seeds at 80% subsidy will be provided to farmers’

Minister for Agriculture Kakani Govardhan Reddy has said that seeds would be provided to the cyclone hit farmers on 80% subsidy and made it clear there is no loss of life due to the Mandous cyclone as the government machinery took all precautionary measures.

The agriculture minister along with the officials visited some agriculture fields at Veerampalli village in Manubolu mandal on Wednesday. He saw the submerged paddy crop and damaged roads. He interacted with the farmers. Speaking on the occasion, he assured of extending all needed help to the affected farmers.

The minister said that the government machinery alerted the people which avoided loss of life and loss of property. However, paddy crops were damaged in some areas and paddy nurseries submerged in the rain water, he said.

“In-put subsidy will be disbursed to the farmers who have lost their crop. Seeds will be provided on 80% subsidy to the rain hit farmers to enable them to raise their crop during this season itself. All steps are being taken to ensure that no farmer incurs loss due to cyclone havoc. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has instructed the officials in this regard,” the minister said.

The minister directed the officials to carry out enumeration of crop loss in a transparent manner. District Agriculture officer Sudhakar Raju, horticulture officer Subba Reddy and RDO Malola were among those who accompanied the minister.
