YSRCP senior leader and former minister RK Roja has alleged that social media activists are being treated like terrorists, with false cases registered against them.
In a video message on Sunday, Roja expressed dismay over an incident involving a woman social activist, Peddireddy Sudha Rani, who reportedly informed a judge that she was subjected to police torture and that false cases were filed against her.
“To divert attention from the government’s failures, social media activists are being booked and harassed. These activists are simply highlighting the government’s shortcomings,” Roja remarked.
She also criticised the government’s failure to address crimes against women, citing an incident where Tirupati police allegedly pressured a rape victim’s parents to deny the assault on their daughter. She accused the police of shielding offenders and claimed that the government is attempting to silence activists who expose its failures.
Roja further condemned the authorities for failing to curb the spread of ganja, pointing to its cultivation behind a ladies’ hostel in Visakhapatnam and in Kuppam, which she said reflects the police’s ineffectiveness in tackling the issue.
Demanding an end to false cases against social media activists, Roja warned of a large-scale protest if the harassment continues. She defended former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s stance, stating that police officials responsible for filing false cases would be held accountable.
