In a much-needed relief to Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Pawan Kalyan, the Telangana State government has completed the registration process of his customised election campaign vehicle ‘Varahi’. The vehicle has been registered in Hyderabad’s West Regional Transport Office, with the registration number TS 13 EX 8384. According to sources in the Telangana Transport Department, the vehicle satisfied all necessary requirements for registration. The vehicle was not of ‘olive green’ colour, but of ’emerald green’ colour. There were no objections and all documents were verified, the sources said.
The colour of ‘Varahi’ and its size were in news in the past few days when it was launched and its video was posted on Twitter. Soon after the video hit social media, the colour code of the vehicle became a contentious issue, triggering a huge debate. It was clarified by officials that colours used by armed forces could not be used by anyone.
Irrigation Minister Ambati Rambabu, Tourism Minister R K Roja and former minister Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani) launched a tirade against the Jana Sena chief. Nani even adised Pawan Kalyan to read the Indian Motor Vehicle Act, that banned the use of olive green colour dedicated to army vehicles by private persons. “He better have the vehicle painted in yellow colour,” said Nani, hinting at the ‘understanding’ between JSP and TDP.
Jana Sena PAC chairman Nadendla Manohar said, “We know what colours should be used. Pawan Kalyan is taking decisions in view of the people’s interest.”
Andhra Pradesh Additional Commissioner of Transport SAV Prasad Rao said that nobody approached the department for registration.
