YSRCP opposes screening of biopic on Vivekananda

Must read

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has demanded the stopping of the screening of the movie ‘Vivekam’, a biopic on YS Vivekananda Reddy’s life, citing ongoing CBI investigations into his murder. The Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Office has forwarded this request to the Election Commission of India (ECI) for action. Allegations claim that the movie’s trailer, shared on YouTube, depicts scenes that potentially defame Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSR Congress Party.
Concerns are raised about the film’s potential to influence voters, especially as investigations into Reddy’s death are ongoing. The YSRCP references past ECI decisions, such as the ban on a biopic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2019 elections, to support their case.
Objections are also raised against Instagram content allegedly targeting YS Bharathi, Jagan’s wife, and Avinash Reddy, potentially impacting voter perceptions negatively. The YSRCP urges the ECI to intervene and halt the film’s release to maintain electoral integrity.
