YSRCP strategises to counter Pawan’s move in Pithapuram

Following the declaration by Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Pawan Kalyan of his intent to contest the upcoming assembly elections from Pithapuram, the ruling YSRCP swiftly mobilised, formulating plans to secure victory over the actor-turned-politician in the 2024 polls.
After successfully devising tactics to challenge TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu in his stronghold of Kuppam, situated in Chittoor district, YSRCP President and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is reportedly orchestrating another strategic manoeuvre, this time targeting Pithapuram to thwart the Jana Sena Party chief’s ambitions.
Leading the charge, senior YSRCP figure and Power Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy is overseeing operations in Kuppam, while his son, Rajampet MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy, has been tasked with executing “Operation Pithapuram” to counter Pawan Kalyan’s influence.
The party has already nominated Kakinada MP Vanga Geetha for the Pithapuram assembly constituency, and her vigorous campaign is already underway. In contrast, Pawan Kalyan’s candidacy was only announced on Thursday, and his campaign is yet to commence.
Meanwhile, discontent brewed within the TDP ranks following Pawan Kalyan’s decision. Several members expressed frustration and disagreement with the party’s leadership, leading to the burning of TDP flags and flex banners by followers of NVSN Verma, who felt betrayed by the party. Verma’s supporters initiated an agitation, advocating for an independent candidacy, further exacerbating tensions within the TDP.
In a strategic move, the YSRCP has enlisted veteran Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham to join their ranks, intending to launch an aggressive campaign in the Pithapuram constituency. Mithun Reddy is actively engaging with party leaders and grassroots workers in the area, ensuring the distribution of resources to bolster support.
Reports suggest that amid Verma’s dissension, the YSRCP leadership is enticing him with promises of a brighter future if he aids in Pawan Kalyan’s defeat. Sources indicate Verma is tempted by the YSRCP’s offer.
With these developments unfolding, the YSRCP appears poised to effectively counter Pawan Kalyan’s bid for Pithapuram, according to insiders.
