The Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam party (TDP) on Tuesday created history by winning 135 Assembly seats, leaving only 11 to the ruling YSRCP.
The ruling YSRCP has also created a history by winning a meagre 11 seats. It won 151 seats in the 2019 elections.
Except for Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Energy Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, all the Cabinet Ministers, including Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram were defeated.
Among the Cabinet Ministers who lost elections were Botcha Satyanarayana, Seediri Appala Naidu, Dharana Prasada Rao, Dadisetti Raja, Vishwaroop Pinipe, Gopala Krishna Chelluboyina, Kottu Satyanarayana, Home Minister Taneti Vanita, Jogi Ramesh, Vidadala Rajini, Ambati Rambabu, Merugu Nagarjuna Audiulapu Suresh, Kakani Govardhan Reddy, Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy, Amzath Basha SB, RK Roja and Assembly Speaker Thammineni Seetaram.
Many Stalwarts of YSRCP including V Vijayasai Reddy, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, Avanti Srinivasa Rao and Kodali Nani had to bite the dust. Since the very first round, the TDP candidates established clear leads which continued till the end. The TDP-JSP and BJP registered a landslide victory by registering a clean sweep from Srikakulam district to Chittoor district. Except for Kadapa district where the YSRCP won three seats including Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the ruling party failed to win a few seats in any other district.
The ruling party which won 151 seats in the last election, was restrained to only 11 seats and that is unprecedented, a TDP leader commented.
Meanwhile, the Jana Sena has won all the 21 Assembly seats it contested while the BJP has won 8 seats. The TDP-JSP-BJP contested the elections in alliance.
Meanwhile, the TDP also won 16 Lok Sabha seats, the Jana Sena two seats and the BJP three seats. The ruling YSRCP has won four LS seats.
In a video message to the people, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy wondered why the people rejected the elections in such a big way despite the implementation of many welfare schemes by spending lakhs of crores of rupees during the last five years. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that the party would stand with the people despite the debacle. He assured the people that he would stand with with them despite the debacle.
